Search “best Amazon FBA prep centers in New York” and most of what comes back is either a single operator’s own homepage or a directory page that lists categories without naming specific comparison criteria. Neither actually helps you pick. This is the checklist we’d want if we were the ones evaluating a prep partner instead of running one.

Start with what “New York” actually means for your shipment

New York-based prep centers cluster in a few areas: Queens and the outer boroughs, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley / mid-state corridor. The borough matters less than proximity to your supplier’s inbound freight and to the highways that reach Amazon’s Northeast fulfillment centers. A warehouse in Ozone Park, Queens sits near the Van Wyck Expressway and Belt Parkway, which is what actually determines how fast a truck moves, not the city name on the address.

Six things worth checking before you commit

• Published pricing vs. “request a quote.” A per-unit and per-carton rate card you can read before contacting sales tells you the pricing model is stable enough to publish. A quote-only page is not automatically a red flag, but it means you cannot compare two operators without giving both your information.
• What “free storage” actually covers. Every prep center advertises some free storage window. Ask specifically how many days, whether it starts at receiving or at prep completion, and what the per-carton daily rate is after that window closes.
• Stated turnaround, not marketing turnaround. “24–48 hours” typically means from completed inspection to prep completion, not from truck arrival to FC check-in. Ask what happens during a peak-season backlog specifically, since that is when turnaround claims get tested.
• Minimum order requirements. Some NY-area 3PLs require a monthly minimum before they will onboard a new account. If you are shipping a few dozen units a month while scaling, confirm this before you invest time in a quote.
• Setup and account fees. No setup fee is close to standard in this market now; a center still charging one should be able to explain what it covers.
• Whether pricing is tiered by volume. FNSKU labeling commonly runs from around $0.60 per unit at low volume down toward $0.40 or lower above 500 units. If a center quotes one flat number regardless of volume, ask why.

Questions to ask on the first call

• What happens if my shipment arrives with a labeling error — is rework billed separately?
• Do you provide photos or a count report at receiving, and how fast?
• What is your process for damaged or missing units from the supplier, and how is it documented for a claim?
• Can you handle a mixed shipment split between Amazon FBA and Walmart WFS labeling?
• What is your written quote turnaround, and is it in writing?
